Using the Setup manager

Use these features to ensure that all DT Max users in your company or workgroup use the same preferences and setup settings for things like billing, forms mapping etc.

The example below is for DT Max T1. The setup is different for T1, T2 and T3, but the principles are the same for all.

Step 1. Log in to DT Max as a system supervisor, and ensure that all the preferences match the standard you wish to set for your company setup.

Step 2. Using the Setup manager create a company setup file DT1_COMP.INIT that will contain the standard settings for everyone in your company.

Step 3. If your company operates across several different offices or databases, you should create a workgroup setup file for each different database. First create the company setup file, and copy that (using Windows Explorer) to the T1 folder of each database. Then for each database in turn, edit the preferences to set them up the way you want them for that database, and then in the Setup manager create a workgroup setup file DT1_WORK.INIT.

Step 4. If you do not want to have different workgroup preferences, then use the Setup manager to clean the workgroup setup file DT1_WORK.INIT.

Step 5. If you want to be sure that existing users start fresh with the revised company or workgroup setup, then use the Setup manager to clean the individual users' setup files. Use this carefully as it will delete ALL the personal settings that are stored in the user's setup file.

Note that using the Setup manager just enforces the settings at that moment in time. If you need to ensure that your users cannot make changes to the preferences after your have created the company or workgroup files, then you need to enforce the security system and remove the users rights to Change preferences and setup.

If you require even more control over the way your users change their preferences then please see the advanced features offered by the Policy editor. If your policy is set to use encrypted setup files they will have the file extension .INIX instead of .INIT.

Editing the setup files manually.

The Setup manager allows you to edit the company or workgroup files manually using Notepad. You should only do this if you want to make minor adjustments and understand the process. If you make errors in the setup file, go repeat the process of creating a company or workgroup setup file and this will clean incorrect syntax from the file.
